OUR DEPARTMENTS
The Office of the Chief Executive Officer is responsible to the Board for providing, day to day management and execution of plans for the implementation of the Corporation’s mandate and for the overall implementation of Board decisions
The Management of REREC is vested in the Board of Directors who provide policy and oversight while the day to day operations are delegated to the Chief Executive Officer. REREC is organized into the following Seven (7) Directorates and one (1) department reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer: –
- Power Distribution & Regional Coordination Directorate
- Renewable Energy Research and Development Directorate
- Information, Education and Communication Directorate
- Strategy and Business Development Directorate
- Human Resource and Administration Directorate
- Finance and Information Education and Communication (ICT) Directorate
- Internal Audit Directorate
- Supply Chain Management Department
The Directorate is mandated to enhance Rural Electrification Program and manage projects.
- DESIGN DEPARTMENT
The mandate of the Design Department is to design the funded and approved projects.
- CONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT
The Construction Department was established to implement grid extension projects all over the country.
- OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT
Mandated to carry out the Operation and Management (O & M) of renewable energy sources generation plants and distribution networks developed and maintained by the Corporation.
- REGIONAL COORDINATION DEPARTMENT
Regional Offices were established to ease access to the Citizenry for all services provided by REREC. They serve as miniatures of the REREC Headquarters and avail REREC services at the Counties level.
The mandate of the Directorate of Renewable Energy Research and Development is to promote and develop use of renewable energy technologies, except geothermal.
- BIOMASS ENERGY DEPARTMENT
This Department is responsible for promotion and development of all biomass energy technologies.
- ALTERNATIVE ENERGY DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for promotion and development of all Alternative energies; solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind, small hydro, tidal energy etc.
- ENERGY CENTRES DEPARTMENT
Responsible for promotion of all renewable energy technologies (except Geothermal) within Counties. REREC is managing 16 Energy Centers across the country.
- RENEWABLE ENERGY RESEARCH AND INNOVATION DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for research and innovation of all renewable energy technologies except geothermal energy.
The Information, Education and Communication Directorate is responsible for advocacy, promotion and dissemination of information on the use of renewable energy technologies and enhancing customer satisfaction.
- ADVOCACY, PUBLIC EDUCATION AND AWARENESS DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for raising public awareness on the mandate of the Corporation through information, education and communication.
- CORPORATE COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT
The Corporate Communication department is responsible for establishing a communication and branding strategy to enhance internal and external communication and the corporate image of the Corporation.
- RESOURCE CENTRE SECTION
The Resource Centre maintains a repository of knowledge and learning material for the Corporation.
The directorate was established to mobilize domestic and external resources, strategic management, planning and quality management.
- QUALITY & RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
The department is responsible for policy formulation, risk management, total quality management and compliance with environmental and social management of projects.
- STRATEGY AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT
It is responsible for strategy management, rural electrification and renewable energy master planning and performance contracting.
- RESEARCH, MONITORING AND EVALUATION DEPARTMENT
The Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department is responsible for policy formulations, research, dissemination and monitoring and evaluation.
- BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for business policy formulation and implementation, strategic linkages with development partners (DP), resource mobilization and backstopping on development partner project preparatory activities.
- GEOSPATIAL DEPARTMENT
This department is mandated to design the funded and approved projects.
The directorate was established to mobilize domestic and external resources, strategic management, planning and quality management.
- QUALITY & RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
The department is responsible for policy formulation, risk management, total quality management and compliance with environmental and social management of projects.
- STRATEGY AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT
It is responsible for strategy management, rural electrification and renewable energy master planning and performance contracting.
- RESEARCH, MONITORING AND EVALUATION DEPARTMENT
The Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department is responsible for policy formulations, research, dissemination and monitoring and evaluation.
- BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for business policy formulation and implementation, strategic linkages with development partners (DP), resource mobilization and backstopping on development partner project preparatory activities.
- GEOSPATIAL DEPARTMENT
This department is mandated to design the funded and approved projects.
This Directorate is responsible for provision of strategic leadership through the formulation, dissemination and articulation of Human Resource Management policies and provision of efficient Administration and security services for the Corporation; to ensure alignment to the corporate strategy and global best practice.
- HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT
The department is responsible for ensuring that the Corporation has adequately developed Human Resource Capacity to enable it deliver on its overall mandate. It is also responsible for developing and implementing effective administrative policies, procedures and processes within legal framework of Human Resource Management Professional Act No. 52 of 2012 and other labour laws.
- ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT
The Administration Department is responsible for management of hospitality services, utility services and related outsourced services.
- SECURITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The department is responsible for formulation and implementation of security policies, ensuring safety of Corporation assets, properties and personnel and any other security related issues within the Corporation.
The directorate was established to ensure prudent management of financial resources and the reporting thereof within the existing legal framework. It is also mandated to ensure that the Corporation adopts and implements effective strategies for deployment of Information Communications Technology Infrastructure through development and implementation of Information Communications Technology (ICT) Strategy and Policy.
- FINANCE AND ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT
The department is mandated to ensure prudent management of financial resources and the reporting thereof within the existing legal framework.
- INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (I.C.T) DEPARTMENT
The Information Communication Technology Department is responsible for the development and management of information systems towards the attainment of operational efficiencies.
The Directorate is responsible for providing assurance on the Board’s internal control systems, risk management framework and the governance structure.
- PROCESS AUDIT DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for independent and objective review, examination and evaluation of the company’s internal control systems and operations and report on the same to ensure the economic and effective use of resources and compliance to the laid down laws, rules, regulations and policies.
- SYSTEM AND FORENSIC AUDIT DEPARTMENT
The Department is responsible for independent and objective review, examination and evaluation of the company’s financial and information systems, management procedures and security control; to ensure compliance to laid down laws and prove that a crime has been or is being committed.
The Department is responsible for procurement of goods, works and services, inventory management and Disposal.
- PROCUREMENT AND DISPOSAL SECTION
The Section derives its mandate pursuant to Article 227 of Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and the Provisions of section 47(1) of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015 which states that a procurement function shall be handled by procurement professionals whose qualifications are recognized in Kenya.
- INVENTORY MANAGEMENT AND LOGISTICS SECTION
The Section mandate is pursuant to Provisions of section 159(1) of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act 2015 which provides the procedure for receipts, recording of goods, works and services.
Its duties entail provision of Corporation Secretarial, Legal and insurance services. The department is responsible for playing an advisory role to the Board and Management on various legal issues as well as being in charge of Board affairs.
- LEGAL SERVICES SECTION
The Section is responsible for monitoring compliance with the legislation and regulatory framework. This includes providing advice to the Corporation pertaining to all legal aspects and represent the Corporation in any legal actions to be initiated and/or defend the interest of the Corporation.
Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has an expanded mandate of spearheading Kenya’s green energy drive, in addition to implementing rural electrification projects.
