REREC’s Strategic Plans

REREC’s Strategic Plan (2018/2019-2022/2023)

The Corporation’s Strategic Plan is premised on the mandates of REREC as defined in the Energy Act, 2019, which gives the Corporation an expanded mandate on renewable energy development.

The focus of REREC’s Strategic Plan (2018/2019-2022/2023) is to sustainably electrify all the rural public facilities and households in the Country. More importantly, the Plan’s focal point is the enactment of the Energy Act 2019, which gives a renewed direction towards research, development, promotion and use of Renewable Energy.

It also ensures the vision of the Corporation of having ‘A green energy driven nation’ is achieved

while furthering the National vision and continued contribution towards achievement of sustainable development goals (SDG) specifically SDG no. 7 and no. 13 on affordable and clean energy for all and combatting effects of climate change respectively.

The development of this strategic plan is built on the Third Medium Term Plan (MTP III) which is the road map towards the actualization of the economic transformation hinged onto the economic pillar of Kenya Vision 2030, implemented over five-year medium-term rolling plans. Annual targets have been set and indicative budgets proposed for all activities for the entire plan period.

Key deliverables of the 2018/2019 - 2022/2023 Strategic Plan

Electrify about 25,899 unelectrified public facilities; 278 public primary schools, 1,339 Secondary schools and Institutions of Higher Learning, 1,428 health facilities, 5,705 markets and other public facilities. 3,728 off-grid public facilities will be electrified through the installation of minigrids systems based on renewable sources.

Establish a framework for collaboration with stakeholders including County Governments, the community and institutions of higher learning to promote local capacity for the manufacture, installation, maintenance of renewable energy technologies such as bio digesters, solar systems turbines among others.

Develop policy and operationalize the framework for enabling efficient and sustainable production, conversion, distribution, marketing and utilization of biomass, solar, wind, small hydros, and municipal waste

Develop and promote biogas and biomass systems for 20 institutions; maintain 5,000 institutions with renewable energy systems and install 50,000 out of the 250,000 mapped solar home systems

Connect about 112,500 un-electrified households that are within a radius of 600M of new transformers (transformer maximization).

Install and meter 200 Solar PVs and 20 wind systems.
